Lately, I’ve been thinking about what makes a community thrive. It’s not just about showing up—it’s about how we show up. The energy we bring to our work, our art, and each other is what truly makes the difference.
 
It’s easy to focus on what you’re getting, but real impact comes from what you’re giving. Be the friend you want to have. Support others. Hype them up. Put in the effort without expecting anything in return. The energy you put out has a way of coming back, but more importantly, it makes you the kind of person people want in their corner.

• Instagram Introduces New View Metrics - Instagram just rolled out two new tools to help you better understand your Reels' performance:
  
  
  • View Rate Metric – This tracks how many people watch your video beyond the first 3 seconds. It compares an individual Reel’s performance to your average retention rate, helping you gauge how strong your hook is.
    
    
  • Views Over Time – Now, you can track how a Reel’s views stack up against your usual performance. This also shows whether your views are coming from followers or non-followers, giving you insights into how well you’re reaching new audiences.

Kelly’s journey into tattooing began in 2015 when she decided to pursue her dream while living in a remote town in California. With only two tattoo shops in her small town—and neither interested in taking on an apprentice—her dream seemed distant. "For 2 years, I heard nothing but 'Not taking apprentices' or 'We already have an apprentice,'" she recalls. Determined not to let rejection define her path, Kelly began exploring other options until she discovered Oregon’s unique approach to tattoo licensing.
 
In Oregon, aspiring tattoo artists must attend state-approved tattoo schools rather than secure an apprenticeship. This alternative, which allowed for part-time attendance while still working, was the opportunity Kelly needed. "I enrolled and moved here in 2017—it felt like a ray of light shining through the clouds," she explains. After a year in school, she earned her body art license, though she admits, "I became a licensed tattoo artist—but I knew absolutely nothing about tattooing." That humbling realization spurred her to learn on the job, gradually transforming her skills through years of hands-on experience.
 
A pivotal moment in Kelly’s growth came during her first attempt at a realistic rose tattoo. Inspired by the work of Pony Wave, she offered a free tattoo of a red rose to gain experience. However, as the tattoo progressed, the petals began to blur together. "I wasn't sure what my next step was," Kelly recalls. At that moment, her shop owner stepped in with a simple yet transformative piece of advice: "You really need to add black for shadows." That guidance pushed her past her fear of deep colors and reshaped her approach to using contrast and depth—a lesson that now defines her vibrant, botanical style. "I specialize in all things botanical, so if you can find it in a garden, I'd love to tattoo it," she enthuses.
 
For Kelly, tattooing is as much about creating a positive experience as it is about the art itself. Having once endured a negative tattoo experience as a client, she is driven to ensure that her work is both beautiful and compassionate. Outside the studio, Kelly stays active on the tennis court, and when it comes to aftercare, she swears by Mad Rabbit’s Repair patches. "They feel so incredibly nice over a fresh tattoo," she notes.
 
Kelly’s story is one of perseverance, adaptability, and passion. From overcoming the challenges of a small-town start to carving out a niche in botanical tattoos, every step of her journey has led her to create art that resonates deeply with her clients.
