Newsletter 67
20 March, 2025A day late? Maybe. But let’s call it fashionably late—because good things are worth waiting for.
If you're new here, welcome. If you’ve been around, welcome back. Every two weeks, this newsletter is all about keeping you in the loop, celebrating what you’re doing, and making sure this community keeps growing together.
Since we’re already talking timing, let’s not forget—we’re still in Women’s Month, and that deserves more than just a passing mention. Tattooing has always been about pushing boundaries, and the women in this space have done exactly that—challenging norms, redefining artistry, and making sure the industry keeps evolving. If that’s not worth celebrating, I don’t know what is. Stay tuned for a special feature next newsletter.
Now, a quick update for those who may have missed it: Our CEO, Oliver, had the chance to share the Mad Rabbit story on the Open Residency podcast recently. It was an incredible opportunity to talk about this community and everything you all are doing to make it so special. To show our appreciation, we’ve teamed up with Open Residency and Ikonick to offer an awesome giveaway package that includes a trip to our LA HQ, a free tattoo session, a massive Ikonick artwork, and more.
The best part? You can enter by completing a few easy challenges! The deadline is March 16th, and we’ll announce the winner on March 19th. For full details, check out the March Challenges section later in the newsletter. So, don’t wait—get involved, and let’s continue showing the world what this community is all about.
Alright, now let’s dive into the rest of this week’s updates. From new artists to challenges and everything in between, we’ve got a lot of good stuff to share!

Sponsored Artist Feature
Zakk Powers | @zakkpowers
Boston Barber & Tattoo Co. | Boston, Massachusetts
Zakk Powers’ journey into tattooing started with full immersion. “I started my journey by just being in the shop as much as possible and getting tattooed every week.” Over time, those visits turned into friendships, and those friendships opened the door to an apprenticeship and a career.
His love for tattoos runs deep—long before he ever picked up a machine, he was inspired by “rock stars and outlaws and the look that came with being that.” Joining the military right out of high school only fueled his passion further, reinforcing his appreciation for the bold, rebellious nature of ink.
As his skills developed, he gravitated toward two contrasting styles. “Traditional, because the imagery is amazing, and I like the idea of carrying on the traditional values of tattooing.” But on the other end of the spectrum, he’s equally drawn to fine-line black and grey. “It gives the feel of drawing with a pencil that I really enjoy. If done correctly, it can last.”
His career has led to some unforgettable experiences, including tattooing big names. “Recently, I was able to tattoo the hands of Celtics player Payton Pritchard, which was a cool experience.” But beyond the highlights, what he values most is the everyday grind. “It never really feels like a job. It just feels like I'm hanging with my friends creating cool shit.” The only exception? Taking on projects he’s not passionate about. “Which I try not to do.”
For aspiring tattooers, his advice is straightforward: “Get off YouTube and get into a shop. Be there as much as you can. Make friends with everyone in there.” When working with clients, he thrives on real-time collaboration, sketching designs on the spot so they can tweak them together.
Right now, he’s in the middle of a fine-line black and grey back piece of a reaper—“It’s not like anything I’ve really seen out there.” And while tattooing is his passion, he also knows the importance of longevity. “Tattooing can be hard on the body, and I want to be able to do it for as long as I physically can.”
His go-to product? “The all-time favorite has to be the Glide. I use it daily, and I’ve never had an issue with it.” But what really makes working with Mad Rabbit special? “You can tell they really care—I feel more like a friend than just a sponsored artist.”
